Extract from Domesday Book

Parts of the parish of Eggbuckland were mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086, below is an extract:

Bochelanda 50 s. No change. Manor near Church - 10 slaves. Saltworks, the only packhorse in the district, 3 cattle, 70 sheep, 200 acres of woodland, (Glenholt) 10 farms, 8 share holdings. John Austen (1333), Mainstone (1201), Bowden (1321), Pool and Frogmore (1572).

Shallowford 1623, Thornbury, Deer Park, Doidges, Goosewell, Gressbrook, Estover and Rock.

Leigham (Leurichestoria) 10 s. 1 slave, 2 farms, eight acres of wood, 3 meadows. Manor house, two farms.

Widey (Wide) 10 s. 3 slaves, 7 cows, 2 pigs, 40 sheep on the demesne at Widey and S. Widey. Means withy, half league woodlong 3 furlongs wide.
